Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that former prime minister Imran Khan may be shifted to the new Islamabad Model Jail once it becomes operational in the next two months. According to the minister, the facility is more than 85 percent complete and will include modern security arrangements and improved healthcare services.
Naqvi stated that prisoners sentenced in Islamabad would be accommodated at the new jail after its formal launch. He added that the upgraded facility will offer better medical infrastructure, including access to eye treatment and specialist consultations where required.
The statement comes amid growing concern about Imran Khan’s reported health condition. A recent report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan claimed that the PTI founder has lost around 85 percent of vision in his right eye and recommended an urgent examination by a specialist. The report has intensified public debate over his medical care while in custody.
Authorities have maintained that necessary medical facilities are being provided according to prison rules. However, PTI leaders and family members have repeatedly called for independent medical assessments.
Political analysts say the possible transfer to the Islamabad Model Jail could ease concerns if improved healthcare access is ensured. The development is being closely watched, as it combines legal, medical, and political dimensions in an already sensitive environment.
