Sri Lanka has removed Pakistan from all negative visa lists following a high level meeting between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The development is expected to ease travel procedures for Pakistani citizens and improve people to people contact between the two countries. Officials say the move reflects growing trust and a renewed commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi raised concerns about visa related difficulties faced by Pakistani travelers, including delays and additional scrutiny. He emphasized the need for smoother mobility to boost tourism, trade, and educational exchanges. In response, the Sri Lankan leadership acted promptly, removing Pakistan from the restrictive visa categories.
Analysts believe the decision will benefit business communities and students who frequently travel between the two countries. Sri Lanka remains an attractive destination for tourism and higher education, while Pakistan offers expanding opportunities in trade and regional connectivity.
President Dissanayake also announced that Sri Lanka’s prime minister is expected to visit Pakistan soon, signaling continued diplomatic engagement. The upcoming visit is likely to focus on economic cooperation, regional security, and cultural exchange.
The latest step highlights a positive shift in relations, with both sides aiming to deepen collaboration and remove barriers that limit mobility and mutual growth.
