Mohsin Naqvi met the national men’s hockey team in Lahore and announced financial and logistical support following the squad’s recent challenges. Although he currently serves as chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Naqvi clarified that he is not assuming control of the Pakistan Hockey Federation, but is stepping in to assist the players during an ongoing administrative crisis.

During the meeting, team members reportedly shared concerns about alleged mistreatment and limited facilities during their participation in the Pro Hockey League. Players highlighted issues related to travel arrangements, accommodation, and medical support, which they said affected team morale.

Naqvi assured the squad that immediate steps would be taken to address these problems. He pledged to arrange air tickets, proper playing kits, hotel stays, and medical care for injured athletes ahead of the upcoming World Cup Qualifier in Egypt. He also announced the establishment of a training camp to help the team prepare under better conditions.

In addition to logistical support, Naqvi distributed cheques worth Rs 1 million to each player in recognition of their runner up finish in the recent national tournament. The gesture was described as an effort to boost morale and acknowledge their performance despite difficult circumstances.

Pakistan hockey, once a dominant force with multiple Olympic and World Cup titles, has faced administrative and financial challenges in recent years. Observers say timely support and stable management will be crucial if the team hopes to regain its competitive edge internationally.
