Prominent actor Fawad Khan joined Aleema Khan at a special iftar fundraising dinner held at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Lahore. The event aimed to raise donations for cancer patients who cannot afford treatment.
The hospital, founded by former prime minister Imran Khan, operates on a unique model where a large percentage of patients receive free care funded through public donations and Zakat contributions. Over the years, Shaukat Khanum has become one of Pakistan’s leading cancer treatment centers, with facilities in Lahore, Peshawar, and Karachi.
According to organizers, the iftar dinner proved highly successful, raising more than Rs 43 crore in a single day. The funds will support diagnostic services, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgical procedures for deserving patients. Hospital representatives noted that such events are vital to sustaining operations, especially as treatment costs continue to rise.
Fawad Khan’s presence added visibility to the cause, drawing attention from supporters across the country. Aleema Khan also addressed attendees, highlighting the importance of continued public support to ensure that no cancer patient is denied treatment due to financial hardship.
Shaukat Khanum relies heavily on community contributions, with estimates suggesting that nearly 70 percent of its patients receive financial assistance.
Fundraising drives, particularly during Ramadan, remain central to maintaining the hospital’s mission of providing quality cancer care regardless of a patient’s ability to pay.
