Ride hailing platform Yango Pakistan has launched an inclusive mobility initiative titled “Bakhtiyar Pakistan” in collaboration with NOWPDP, aiming to create income opportunities for drivers with disabilities.
The program focuses on economic empowerment through specially retrofitted rickshaws that enable persons with physical disabilities to operate vehicles safely and independently. By integrating these drivers into its digital platform, Yango seeks to reduce mobility barriers while expanding access to sustainable livelihoods.
The first phase of the initiative saw the distribution of five customized rickshaws. The launch ceremony was held at NOWPDP’s Centre of Excellence in Karachi and attended by government representatives, corporate leaders, and members of the disability rights community. Organizers confirmed that the program will gradually expand to include more beneficiaries in future phases.
Speaking at the event, Miral Sharif from Yango highlighted the importance of breaking structural barriers that limit access to employment. She noted that technology driven platforms can play a key role in promoting inclusive growth. Amin Hashwani, Chairman of NOWPDP, stressed the need for strong public private partnerships and enabling legislation to support persons with disabilities in the workforce.
According to estimates from the World Health Organization, around 15 percent of the global population lives with some form of disability, while Pakistan’s census data also reflects a significant number of citizens requiring inclusive economic policies.
Through Bakhtiyar Pakistan, Yango aims to align business growth with measurable social impact, promoting financial independence and digital inclusion for marginalized communities.
