KP Govt Extends School Holidays From March 24 to 29 in Order to Save Fuel

by Mahnoor Arif

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the closure of all public and private schools from March 24 to March 29 to reduce fuel and electricity use. The decision comes as the country faces ongoing energy shortages and rising fuel costs.

Officials said the extended holidays, after the Eid break, will help cut energy use linked to daily school operations. This includes fuel used in transport, electricity for classrooms, and administrative expenses. By limiting these activities for a few days, the government hopes to ease pressure on national resources.

To avoid major academic loss, schools have been advised to continue learning through online methods. Teachers are encouraged to conduct virtual classes, share recorded lectures, and arrange online assessments where possible. This step is aimed at keeping students engaged during the break.

However, experts have pointed out that this plan may not work equally well in all areas. Many remote regions in the province still face internet and electricity issues, making online learning difficult for some students. This could create gaps in learning if proper support is not provided.

The government has clarified that administrative staff will continue their duties during this period. Authorities say this is a temporary step, and more decisions will depend on the energy situation in the coming weeks.
