Punjab Govt Announces No Extension in Holidays! Educational Institutions to Open from April

by Mahnoor Arif

The Punjab government has announced that all educational institutions will reopen from April 1, 2026, with no further extension of holidays.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed the decision and urged parents and students to ignore rumours about longer closures. He said academic activities will resume normally from where they were left off, and both public and private schools, colleges, and universities will restart full in-person classes.

Schools across Punjab had been closed from March 10 to March 31 as part of emergency measures to reduce fuel consumption. The decision was taken due to rising global oil prices and supply concerns caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. During this period, the government also imposed fuel rationing for officials and encouraged work-from-home policies to save energy.

Earlier, there was speculation that holidays might be extended till mid-April or that hybrid learning would continue. However, after reviewing the situation, the provincial government decided against any further delay in studies.

Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat stressed that students have already missed valuable learning time, and resuming classes on time is important to minimise academic loss. He asked school administrations to prepare for the reopening and ensure smooth return of students.

This announcement brings relief to millions of parents and students across the province. With the new academic session starting in April, regular studies, exams, and school routines will return to normal in Punjab.
