Iran Received 300 Tons of Medicine and 150 Tons of Food from Russia

Russia has sent a large humanitarian aid package to Iran amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. On March 27, 2026, more than 300 metric tons of medicine arrived in Iran by rail through Azerbaijan’s Astara border crossing. At the same time, trucks from Russia’s Dagestan region delivered 150 metric tons of food supplies.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry carried out the operation on the orders of President Vladimir Putin. This is the second major medical shipment; an earlier flight brought 13 tons of medicines.

Containers marked “Russia Is With You” were unloaded and handed over to Iranian officials. Videos shared by the Russian Embassy in Tehran showed the aid being received with handshakes and photos.

The supplies aim to help Iran after recent strikes damaged hospitals and emergency services, creating shortages of medicines and food. The head of Iran’s Red Crescent Society confirmed Russia’s support in addressing these urgent needs.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian publicly thanked President Putin and the Russian people. In a message on X, he said Putin’s statements and Russia’s support “inspire us in this war.” He added thanks on behalf of the Iranian people to the government and people of Russia.

This aid shows the growing partnership between Moscow and Tehran. While some reports mention possible military cooperation, this delivery focuses purely on humanitarian help for civilians facing hardship.

Analysts say such support strengthens ties between the two countries during difficult times. The shipment reached Iran quickly thanks to cooperation with Azerbaijan for transit.
