Islamabad Airport becomes Pakistan’s First to Launch 5G services

by Mahnoor Arif

Islamabad International Airport has become the first airport in Pakistan to offer 5G services, marking a major step in the country’s digital progress. The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) announced the launch on April 2, 2026.

Passengers at the airport can now enjoy ultra-fast internet for live streaming, high-quality video calls, quick browsing, and smooth use of digital services. The new 5G connectivity will make the travel experience much better by providing faster and more reliable mobile internet inside the terminal.

The service has been introduced in collaboration with leading telecom companies. Jazz, Zong, and Ufone have all received 5G spectrum licences recently and are actively rolling out the technology across major cities. The airport project is part of this wider national effort to bring 5G to Pakistan.

Officials say the move aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision for technological growth and better connectivity. It will help modernise Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure and bring it closer to global standards.

This is a significant achievement for the Pakistan Airports Authority. Islamabad Airport, which is already one of the most modern in the country, now offers next-generation mobile services to millions of passengers who pass through every year.

The successful launch at Islamabad is expected to encourage other major airports, such as Karachi and Lahore, to introduce 5G services soon. Experts believe this step will boost tourism, business travel, and overall passenger satisfaction in the coming months.
