A 6.3 magnitude earthquake shook Islamabad, Lahore, and several other cities in Punjab on Friday evening, April 3, 2026. The tremors were widely felt across northern Pakistan, causing panic among residents who rushed out of homes, offices, and buildings.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake struck at around 9:13 pm with its epicentre in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan. The depth was recorded at approximately 190 kilometres, which explains why the tremors spread over a large area but caused limited surface damage.

Strong shaking was reported in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujranwala, and other parts of Punjab. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, tremors reached Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, and Abbottabad. People in many areas described the shaking as intense and lasting for several seconds.

Fortunately, no immediate reports of casualties or major damage have been received. Rescue agencies and local administrations have been put on alert, and officials are assessing the situation in affected districts.

Pakistan lies in a seismically active zone, and minor to moderate earthquakes are common. However, strong tremors like this remind people of the need for earthquake preparedness. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) advised citizens to remain calm, stay away from weak structures, and follow safety guidelines.

As aftershocks are possible, authorities have urged people to stay alert. This latest quake comes amid other challenges facing the country, including high fuel prices and economic pressures. Residents are advised to keep emergency kits ready and follow updates from official sources.
