Major Internet Disruption Expected in Pakistan Next Week

by Mahnoor Arif

Pakistan is likely to face internet slowdowns and possible service disruptions next week due to scheduled maintenance on the Transworld submarine cable system.

According to an official announcement, the maintenance work will start on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 6:30 PM and will continue until Monday, April 13, 2026, at 5:00 AM. The work will be carried out in coordination with international partners.

Submarine cables are the backbone of Pakistan’s international internet connectivity. During this maintenance period, users across the country may experience slower internet speeds, unstable connections, frequent disconnections, or brief outages, especially during peak hours.

The disruption is expected to affect online classes, remote work, video streaming, online banking, business operations, and social media usage. Students preparing for exams and professionals working from home are likely to face the most inconvenience.

Transworld has stated that this is routine maintenance to improve the long-term reliability and capacity of the cable system. However, experts advise users to prepare in advance by downloading important files, backing up data, and avoiding critical online tasks during the affected period.

Internet service providers have also requested customers to stay patient during the maintenance window. Users are encouraged to monitor official updates from their respective ISPs for any changes in the schedule.

This temporary disruption serves as a reminder of Pakistan’s heavy dependence on submarine cables for international connectivity.
