Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the Diaspora Doctor Locum Programme (DDLP), an initiative designed to bring overseas Pakistani and foreign specialist doctors to 12 government hospitals across the province.

The programme aims to strengthen healthcare services by providing patients with access to advanced medical expertise and specialized surgical care.

Under the initiative, experienced doctors from abroad will serve on short-term assignments of at least 15 days and will be allowed to perform advanced surgical procedures during their stay.

To qualify, applicants must hold recognized specialist qualifications, have at least three years of overseas fellowship experience, and meet the required health and professional standards.

In addition to treating patients, participating specialists will also train local doctors, helping improve medical skills and knowledge within Punjab’s public healthcare system.

The provincial government will introduce a dedicated online portal and digital dashboard to manage registrations, credential verification, appointments, and programme monitoring.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to bringing world-class medical expertise to Punjab and improving the quality of healthcare available to the public.

Authorities are also preparing a similar programme for the nursing sector to further strengthen hospital services across the province.
