To address Lahore’s dangerous smog levels, the Punjab government is planning to create artificial rain on November 11 and 12. This move aims to improve air quality as the city’s pollution has reached critical levels.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Lahore has become extremely hazardous, with some areas facing especially high pollution. Gulberg, for instance, has recorded an AQI of 812, marking it as one of the worst-affected areas. Other locations like Shadman and Defense Phase V are also experiencing alarmingly high AQI readings, posing serious health risks to residents.
In light of this crisis, Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider Khan has urged the government to declare a “smog emergency” and take swift action. He acknowledged the dedication of Federal Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi for his efforts in tackling the smog issue this year.
Public health experts are also calling for more comprehensive, long-term solutions to reduce pollution in Lahore. While the artificial rain is expected to temporarily reduce smog levels, experts emphasize that lasting measures are essential to prevent the crisis from recurring in the future.
By focusing on immediate and sustained actions, Punjab aims to protect public health and work toward a cleaner environment for Lahore’s residents.
