40,000+ EV Bikes Sold in April as Demand Surge Triggers Market Shortage

by Mahnoor Arif

Pakistan’s electric bike market is growing very fast. In April 2026, more than 40,000 electric bikes were sold across the country. This sharp rise in sales shows how quickly people are shifting from petrol bikes to electric ones.

Rising fuel prices are the main reason for this boom. Petrol has become very expensive due to global tensions and local costs. Many middle-class families now find it hard to afford daily fuel expenses. Electric bikes cost much less to run, sometimes up to 10 times cheaper than petrol bikes. People also prefer them because they are environmental friendly and easy to maintain.

The sudden high demand has created serious shortages in the market. Dealers in big cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi report empty showrooms. Popular models are sold out quickly, and buyers now face long waiting times of 15 to 20 days. Some customers are even paying extra money to get their bikes sooner. Manufacturers are struggling to increase production because of limited parts and assembly capacity.

Industry experts say this growth is good for Pakistan. The government is supporting electric vehicles through subsidies and easy loan schemes. New assembly lines are being set up, but it will take some time to meet the rising demand.
