Former Chairman of Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), Tariq Malik, has been named among the world’s top 25 identity leaders in Okta’s prestigious “Identity 25” list for 2026. This global recognition comes from Okta Ventures, the investment arm of the US-based identity and security company.
The list honours pioneers who are shaping digital identity, cybersecurity, and secure digital systems in the age of artificial intelligence. Tariq Malik was recognised for his outstanding work in building one of the world’s largest biometric databases. During his time at NADRA, he helped enrol over 145 million Pakistani citizens. This system played a key role in social protection programmes, women’s empowerment, helping displaced persons, fighting corruption, and reducing poverty.
Tariq Malik currently serves as Technical Advisor on Digital Public Infrastructure at the World Bank. He has advised many governments around the world on digital identity and governance for over 25 years. His efforts have helped improve secure digital services and inclusion for millions of people.
To celebrate this honour, Malik’s name was displayed on the Nasdaq billboard in Times Square, New York, along with the other 24 leaders. This achievement has brought pride to Pakistan and highlights the country’s contributions to global digital innovation.
Experts say this recognition shows the importance of strong digital identity systems for development and security in the modern world.
