Pakistan is preparing to take a major step toward modern healthcare by introducing an AI-powered diagnostic system in more than 1,100 public and private hospitals. The initiative is part of the Prime Minister’s Health Card Programme and aims to improve the speed and accuracy of disease diagnosis across the country.
The new AI system will help doctors detect complex diseases, including cancer and neurological disorders, at an earlier stage. By analyzing medical data quickly, the technology is expected to support doctors in making faster and more accurate decisions, leading to better treatment for patients.
Nearly 200 million Pakistanis could benefit from the nationwide rollout. The AI platform will be introduced in hospitals across Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, expanding access to advanced healthcare services.
Officials believe the technology will also reduce healthcare costs. Faster diagnosis can lower unnecessary testing, improve hospital efficiency, and reduce the financial burden on both patients and the government. The project is expected to save billions of rupees over time.
The government is also planning to work with Alibaba Group to support the project. An agreement is expected to be signed soon, bringing advanced AI technology to Pakistan’s healthcare system.
The introduction of AI diagnostics marks an important milestone for Pakistan’s healthcare sector. While AI will assist in analyzing medical information, doctors will continue to make the final clinical decisions. If implemented successfully, the system could improve patient care, strengthen hospitals, and make quality healthcare more accessible across the country.
