Roti Gets Costlier! Karachi Records Pakistan’s Highest Flour Prices as 20kg Bag Nears Rs2,800

Flour, a basic food item for millions of Pakistanis, has become even more expensive. According to the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Karachi now has the highest flour prices in the country. A 20kg bag of flour is selling for up to Rs 2,800 in the city.

This fresh increase is putting extra pressure on household budgets already struggling with inflation. Other major cities are also facing high prices: Peshawar at Rs 2,750, Islamabad at Rs 2,733, and Rawalpindi at Rs 2,707 per 20kg bag. In contrast, Lahore recorded the lowest price among big cities at around Rs 2,250.

The wide gap in prices between cities shows problems in market supply, transportation, and distribution. Many families, especially low-income ones, now find it hard to afford even basic roti (bread). This situation adds to the daily struggles caused by rising costs of other essentials.

Experts say the government needs to take quick steps to control flour prices and improve supply chains. Without proper action, food affordability will keep worsening. Citizens hope for relief so that this daily necessity does not become a luxury.
