Indus Motor Company (IMC), Toyota’s manufacturing partner in Pakistan, has planted one million trees across the country, marking a major milestone in its environmental sustainability efforts.
The achievement comes under the company’s Million Tree Plantation Project, an initiative designed to increase green cover, support biodiversity and help communities cope with growing environmental challenges.
According to the company, plantation activities have been carried out in several parts of Sindh, Punjab and Islamabad, with a strong focus on Karachi. Trees have been planted in a variety of urban, industrial and coastal locations.
In Karachi, the project has covered areas including Port Qasim, Bin Qasim, Gadap, Malir, Korangi, Clifton, SITE, Hawksbay, Shahrah-e-Faisal and University Road. The initiative aims not only to increase the number of trees but also to encourage long-term environmental responsibility among communities.
IMC implemented the plantation campaign in collaboration with organizations and community partners, including the United Nations Association of Pakistan (UNAP) and WWF-Pakistan. Community involvement has been an important part of the project to help ensure that newly planted trees are properly maintained.
Ali Asghar Jamali, CEO of Indus Motor Company, said the achievement represents an important step toward building a greener and more environmentally resilient Pakistan. He also indicated that the company plans to continue expanding its sustainability initiatives.
The one-million-tree milestone comes as Pakistan faces serious environmental pressures, including rising temperatures, air pollution, shrinking green spaces and climate-related risks.
Large-scale plantation projects by businesses can play a valuable role in addressing these challenges. Toyota Pakistan’s initiative demonstrates how private-sector investment and community participation can contribute to creating healthier cities, stronger ecosystems and a greener future for the country.
