Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced that the government is implementing a rightsizing initiative to cut costs and improve the performance of its operations. This plan focuses on restructuring 42 ministries and 400 attached departments by June 2025, aiming to make the public sector more efficient.
As part of this effort, the government has already eliminated 60% of vacant regular positions, which amounts to 150,000 posts. This decision is expected to create significant financial savings and reduce unnecessary expenses.
The initiative also includes merging certain ministries and outsourcing non-essential services, such as cleaning and maintenance, to private companies. These steps are intended to improve operational efficiency and allow the government to focus on its core functions.
Finance Minister Aurangzeb emphasized that the ultimate goal is to reduce the government’s expenditure, which currently stands at Rs900 billion, while ensuring better governance and streamlined processes. Additionally, the reforms aim to provide the finance ministry with live cash balance visibility, enabling more effective fiscal management and decision-making.
This move reflects the government’s commitment to reducing financial burdens and creating a more sustainable and efficient public sector.
