$475 Million Approved for M-6 Sukkur Hyderabad Motorway Project

by Hameed

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has given approval for $475 million in financing to help build the M-6 Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway. This motorway is considered one of the most important missing links in Pakistan’s north-south highway network, which connects Karachi in the south all the way to Peshawar in the north.

The M-6 will cover a distance of 306 kilometers and will be a modern six-lane motorway. Once completed, it will include 89 bridges, 15 interchanges, and 243 underpasses, allowing vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. The total cost of the project is estimated at $1.7 billion.

Work on acquiring land for the motorway has already been started by the Sindh government, while actual construction is planned to begin in April 2026. This road is part of the Eastern route of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and it is expected to improve trade, travel, and regional connectivity.

Although the project faced delays in the past due to increasing costs, it has now been given priority in the financial year 2025–26. Funding is being arranged through several institutions, ensuring that the project can finally move forward.
