Afghanistan’s star wicketkeeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has withdrawn from the Pakistan Super League season 11, only days after being announced as a direct signing by Peshawar Zalmi. The franchise confirmed his unavailability after Gurbaz shared a video message on his official Instagram account.
In the video, Gurbaz spoke in his native Pashto and explained the reasons behind his decision. He said that his international cricket schedule following the T20 World Cup is very busy, making it difficult for him to commit fully to the PSL this season. Along with professional commitments, he also mentioned personal responsibilities at home that require his attention.
Gurbaz added that he wants to spend more time focusing on his foundation work in Afghanistan. He said supporting people in his country remains close to his heart and needs his presence during this period. The Afghan batter thanked fans for their understanding and expressed gratitude to Peshawar Zalmi for their support.
Peshawar Zalmi had officially announced Gurbaz as a direct signing on 5 February. The franchise shared a graphic of the player wearing traditional Afghan attire, set against a mountainous background, which was well received by fans. His signing had created excitement, as Gurbaz is known for his aggressive batting style and strong performances in T20 cricket.
The news of his withdrawal has disappointed Zalmi supporters, who were looking forward to seeing him in action during the tournament. However, many fans have respected his decision and wished him well.
Peshawar Zalmi is now expected to look for a replacement as the team prepares for the upcoming PSL season.
