“Very Good Ties with Pakistan,” Trump says US won’t intervene in Islamabad-Kabul conflict

US President Donald Trump has said that the United States will not directly intervene in the current tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. Speaking to reporters, Trump stated that Washington maintains “very good ties” with Pakistan and respects its right to protect its territory.

The statement comes amid rising border clashes and security concerns between Islamabad and Kabul. In recent months, Pakistan has accused militant groups operating from Afghan soil of carrying out attacks inside its borders. Afghan authorities have denied providing safe havens, but the issue has added strain to already fragile relations.

The United States has described the Afghan Taliban as a designated terrorist group in various policy statements over the years. Trump said the US supports Pakistan’s right to defend itself against attacks. However, he made it clear that Washington does not plan to become directly involved in military operations related to the dispute.

Security experts note that the US has historically played a key role in the region, especially after two decades of involvement in Afghanistan. Since the US troop withdrawal in 2021, regional security dynamics have shifted. Washington now focuses more on diplomatic engagement and counterterrorism monitoring rather than direct military presence.

Analysts say Trump’s remarks signal a policy of limited involvement while maintaining strategic ties with Pakistan. For Islamabad, US support in principle strengthens its diplomatic position, but the responsibility for managing the conflict remains primarily between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
