In a significant move to reinforce regional security and strategic cooperation, the United States and India have signed a 10-year defence framework agreement aimed at expanding military collaboration and technological exchange between the two nations.
The announcement was made by US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth following his meeting with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Hegseth emphasized that the long-term framework would enhance coordination, intelligence sharing, joint exercises, and defence innovation, laying the groundwork for a stronger partnership in the Indo-Pacific region.
This agreement comes at a crucial time, marking the first meeting between the two defence leaders since Washington imposed 50% tariffs on Indian exports in August. The tariffs followed India’s continued purchases of Russian oil, a move that had previously strained bilateral relations.
