OGDCL Discovers More Gas in Sindh’s Khairpur District

by Mahnoor Arif

The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant new gas discovery at the Sahito-1 exploratory well in Khairpur district, Sindh.

The well is located in the Khewari Exploration License area. OGDCL holds a 95% working interest, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited has the remaining 5% carried interest. The company drilled the well using its own in-house expertise. It was spudded on December 24, 2025, and reached a total depth of 3,870 meters in the Sembar Formation.

During testing, the Lower Goru Formation (Massive sand) produced a strong flow of 17.2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas through a 32/64-inch choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 3,390 psi. This result shows good production potential and adds to Pakistan’s indigenous gas reserves.

This latest discovery comes at a time when Pakistan is facing a widening gap between natural gas supply and demand. Increased local production will help reduce dependence on expensive imported LNG and support the country’s energy security.

OGDCL is one of Pakistan’s largest exploration and production companies. It continues aggressive exploration campaigns across the country to find new hydrocarbon reserves. The Sahito-1 success is expected to contribute to the national gas supply once the well is connected to the transmission network.

Such discoveries play a vital role in boosting the economy, creating jobs in the energy sector, and lowering the overall energy import bill for Pakistan.
