In a major development for Pakistan-Kuwait relations, the Kuwaiti government has officially resumed issuing visas to Pakistani citizens. This move, welcomed by both governments marks a fresh chapter in bilateral cooperation especially in labor and healthcare sectors.
Pakistani nationals can now apply for various visa categories, including work, family visit, dependent, tourist and business visas. The reopening comes after years of restrictions and is seen as a strategic step to meet Kuwait’s growing workforce needs.
One of the key initiatives under this revival is the recruitment of 1,200 Pakistani nurses to strengthen Kuwait’s healthcare services. While the first group of 125 nurses experienced delays due to housing issues, Pakistani officials confirmed that arrangements are now underway to ensure a smooth arrival.
Diplomatic sources highlight that both countries are also finalizing a new labor agreement aimed at simplifying the employment process for Pakistani workers. Some parts of this agreement are already in effect.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Kuwait, Dr. Zaffar Iqbal, emphasized the long-standing ties between the two nations, dating back decades. He noted the strong presence of over 90,000 Pakistanis in Kuwait who are contributing to key sectors like healthcare, construction and education.
Kuwaiti investors also maintain a robust footprint in Pakistan, owning major assets and expressing renewed interest in sectors like agriculture, housing, and food security. This aligns with Kuwait’s Vision 2035 which aims to diversify and modernize the country’s economy.
From defense cooperation to economic collaboration, the renewed visa policy is being seen as a symbol of deepening trust and future-focused engagement.
