The United Nations has announced an extra $5 million in emergency aid to help Pakistan deal with the continuing flood crisis.
The new funding will support basic but life-saving services, including medical care, clean drinking water, sanitation facilities, food supplies, and temporary shelters for families who have lost their homes.
This contribution adds to the earlier support already provided by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Pakistan Country-Based Pooled Fund. Officials say the new package is part of global efforts to ensure that vulnerable communities get immediate help.
However, UN representatives have also raised concerns that available resources are running low. They stressed that while the extra aid is a positive step, it is not enough to meet the growing needs of millions of people still struggling with the disaster.
More international support will be required to handle the scale of destruction and the long-term recovery process.
Large areas of land remain submerged, leaving thousands of families cut off from assistance. Many people have lost their homes, crops, and livelihoods, creating a serious humanitarian challenge.
At the same time, health professionals are warning of an alarming increase in waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera, and skin infections, which could worsen the crisis if not controlled quickly.
The UN’s latest move shows global concern for Pakistan’s plight, but experts warn that sustained cooperation, timely funding, and stronger local response systems will be essential in helping the country recover from one of the worst flooding disasters in its history.
