“Statehood for the Palestinians is a Right, Not a Reward”,UN Secretary General

by Hameed

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has said that the recognition of Palestine as a state is a right and not something that should be treated as a reward. He stressed that ignoring this right only deepens frustration and fuels extremism, creating more challenges for peace in the region.

Speaking on the issue, Guterres underlined that the long-standing vision of a two-state solution is still the only practical and credible path toward ending the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.

According to him, this solution offers the best chance for both peoples to live in peace and security, while also ensuring greater stability for the Middle East as a whole.

The UN chief also reminded the world that the Palestinian people deserve to live with dignity, freedom, and independence in a state of their own, side by side with Israel. At the same time, he acknowledged the security concerns of Israel and called for measures that would guarantee safety for all civilians.

Guterres urged the international community to act with urgency and responsibility. He said delays in recognizing Palestinian statehood only increase instability and weaken global trust in peaceful solutions. He also pointed out that the conflict cannot be managed with temporary arrangements; it requires a fair and permanent resolution.

By reiterating his support for Palestinian statehood, the Secretary-General has once again placed the responsibility on world leaders to step up efforts. He emphasized that peace will remain out of reach until both nations are guaranteed equal rights and recognition on the international stage.
