UAE to Partner with Pakistan in Building Three Modern Date Processing Plants

by Mahnoor Arif

In a move to boost agricultural trade and value-added exports, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to collaborate on establishing three modern date processing plants in Pakistan. The partnership aims to enhance processing capacity, improve export quality, and promote technological innovation within the country’s thriving date industry.

The agreement was reached during a virtual meeting between Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain and UAE focal person Ms. Simisola Nicola Abere, attended by senior officials from both nations. The discussions focused on joint investments, technology sharing, and developing sustainable models to strengthen the entire value chain, from farmers to global markets.

Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain highlighted that Pakistan produces over 500,000 tonnes of dates annually, making it one of the top date-producing countries in the world. However, much of this potential remains untapped due to limited modern processing facilities and export capabilities. He emphasized that UAE’s expertise and investment can play a key role in enhancing processing standards, increasing global competitiveness, and uplifting farmers’ livelihoods.

The collaboration also aligns with Pakistan’s vision to expand agro-based industries and promote export-oriented growth. By introducing advanced date processing technologies and value addition, both countries aim to create new economic opportunities and strengthen bilateral trade relations.

This strategic partnership marks a significant step toward transforming Pakistan’s date sector into a globally competitive and sustainable industry, benefitting farmers, exporters, and consumers alike.
