“If PSL and PCB Do Not Communicate With us, We Have Legal Options Available,” Multan Sultans Owner Ali Tareen

by Mahnoor Arif

Ali Tareen, owner of Multan Sultans, has raised serious concerns about the current financial structure of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), warning that it could push franchises toward collapse if left unaddressed.

Speaking openly about the challenges teams face, Tareen described his experience in the PSL as “disappointing,” arguing that the existing system heavily favors the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) while franchise owners struggle to cover rising operational costs.

Tareen highlighted that the imbalance in revenue sharing, coupled with the increasing financial demands of managing a top-tier cricket franchise, is creating long-term sustainability issues. He cautioned that if new PSL teams are sold at high prices without meaningful reforms, they could face the same financial difficulties experienced by current franchises.

He also emphasized that reducing the number of teams in the league would be a serious setback for the PSL’s growth, competitiveness, and credibility. Tareen urged the PCB and PSL management to initiate transparent communication with franchise owners to address these concerns and work toward a more equitable model.

Importantly, he noted that if dialogue does not take place and issues remain unresolved, franchises may explore legal avenues to protect their investments. Tareen’s remarks have sparked renewed discussion about the future of the PSL and the need for a sustainable, collaborative financial framework to ensure the league’s long-term success.
