Turkiye Set to Build Drone Facility in Pakistan as Part of Global Defence Expansion

by Mahnoor Arif

Turkiye is preparing to set up a new combat-drone assembly facility in Pakistan, marking a major step in strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries. The plan aims to support the local assembly of advanced stealth and long-endurance drones, which are already gaining global attention for their performance and reliability.

This development aligns with Turkiye’s growing presence in the global defence industry. With defence exports reaching nearly $7.5 billion, Ankara is expanding its partnerships in Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. Establishing a facility in Pakistan would not only boost its export capacity but also deepen strategic ties with Islamabad.

For Pakistan, the project brings significant advantages. Local assembly means faster access to high-tech drone systems, reduced costs, and greater self-reliance in defence production. It also supports Pakistan’s long-term goal of modernising its armed forces through advanced surveillance and combat technologies.

The two countries already share a strong history of military collaboration. Previous joint initiatives include F-16 upgrades, cooperation on the TF-X next-generation fighter jet, and ongoing work on Anka UAVs with technology transfer. Pakistan has also purchased T-129 ATAK helicopters and MILGEM-class corvette warships from Turkiye, showing trust in Turkish defence capabilities.

Officials suggest that the new drone facility may also be influenced by growing regional tensions, particularly with India and instability along the Afghan border. Advanced drones would give Pakistan better surveillance and defence strength in sensitive areas.

If finalized, this facility will mark a new chapter in Pakistan-Turkiye defence relations, supporting innovation, strengthening regional security, and giving both countries a stronger role in the global defence landscape.
