Telenor Pakistan has announced the appointment of Awais Vohra as its Acting Chief Executive Officer following the company’s transition into an autonomous subsidiary of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL). The change comes after the successful completion of all required regulatory approvals for the acquisition.
The company’s Board of Directors confirmed the appointment and expressed appreciation for the leadership of former CEO Fridtjof Rusten. Under his guidance, Telenor Pakistan navigated a complex acquisition and regulatory process while maintaining service quality, operational stability, and customer confidence during a critical phase of change.
Awais Vohra brings extensive experience in Pakistan’s telecom and technology sectors. His appointment is seen as a step toward ensuring continuity and steady leadership as the company enters a new chapter under PTCL’s ownership. The management has emphasized that day to day operations will continue smoothly, with no disruption to customer services.
Despite the full acquisition by PTCL, Telenor Pakistan will continue to operate as a separate legal entity. It will function independently alongside Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (Ufone 4G) and U Microfinance Bank. This structure aims to preserve Telenor Pakistan’s strategic focus, brand identity, and customer centric approach while benefiting from group level synergies.
Industry observers believe the appointment reflects PTCL Group’s commitment to stability and long term growth in the telecom sector. With digital connectivity playing a key role in Pakistan’s economic development, leadership continuity is seen as essential.
Telenor Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to customers, employees, and partners as it moves forward, focusing on reliable services, innovation, and contributing to the country’s digital future.
