Pakistan Kinnow Exports Hit $40 Million in 45 Days Despite Afghan Market Closure

by Hameed

Pakistan earned $40 million from kinnow (mandarin orange) exports in just 45 days, even though exports to Afghanistan were stopped, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

The export flow stayed stable throughout December and continued strongly during the first half of January. Despite concerns about losing a major market, exporters were able to maintain shipments without major disruption.

Officials said this was possible because of quick and effective coordination between the Ministry of Commerce and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP). As soon as the Afghan market closed, exporters were guided to send kinnow consignments to other destinations, especially in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

These timely efforts helped protect farmers and exporters from financial losses. Authorities also ensured that logistics, documentation, and clearance processes were handled smoothly so shipments could reach new markets on time.

The strong performance of kinnow exports shows the resilience of Pakistan’s agricultural sector. It also supports the government’s broader strategy to boost exports, reduce reliance on a single market, and expand trade with new regions.
