Punjab Announces School Timings for Ramadan

by Mahnoor Arif

The Punjab School Education Department has announced revised school timings for the holy month of Ramadan in the province. The decision aims to help fasting students, teachers, and staff balance their daily routines with academic responsibilities.

According to the official notification issued on February 16, all public and private schools in Punjab will follow a shortened daily schedule throughout Ramadan. Single-shift schools will start at 8:30 AM from Monday to Thursday and close at 1:00 PM. On Fridays, schools will close earlier at 12:30 PM to allow time for Friday prayers and to reduce fatigue during fasting hours.

For schools operating on a double-shift system, the morning shift will run from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM on weekdays. The evening shift will begin at 1:00 PM and end at 4:00 PM Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, the second shift will operate from 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM to accommodate the shorter Friday school day.

The notification also says that girls’ schools will open and close 15 minutes earlier than the standard schedule. This is meant to give students a bit more rest and a gentler pace during school days in Ramadan.

These changes reflect the government’s effort to be sensitive to the needs of those observing fasts while keeping education on track. Schools are expected to strictly follow the new timings from the start of Ramadan until the end of the holy month.

Parents and school administrations are advised to stay updated with any additional guidelines from the education department.

The revised schedule is similar to those in other provinces, such as Sindh, which also announced shortened school hours for Ramadan 2026 to support students and staff during fasting.
