PMD Forecasts Widespread Rain Across Pakistan with Snowfall Expected in Northern Regions

by Mahnoor Arif

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain across many parts of the country from March 28 to March 30, 2026. Thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds are also expected in several areas, along with light snowfall in the high-altitude northern regions.

According to PMD, rain with isolated heavy falls is likely in southwestern and northern Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), upper and central Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. Heavy rain may trigger flash flooding in local streams and nullahs, particularly in upper and central KP on March 29 and 30.

Tourist destinations such as Murree, Galiyat, Swat, Naran, Kaghan, and Chitral may experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Snowfall is expected over high mountains in Gilgit-Baltistan and other northern hilly areas.

PMD has warned that strong winds, lightning, and hailstorms could damage weak structures, electric poles, billboards, and solar panels. There is also a risk of landslides in mountainous regions.

Citizens, especially in hilly and low-lying areas, are advised to stay alert. People should avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, secure loose objects, and follow updates from local authorities. Farmers and tourists are requested to plan accordingly and take necessary precautions.

This weather system is expected to bring some relief from dry conditions but may cause temporary disruption to daily life and road travel in affected regions.
