Amid rising tensions with the United States, Iranian officials have urgently called on citizens, especially young people, to form human chains around the country’s power plants for protection.
The appeal came on Tuesday as US President Donald Trump set a final deadline of 8:00 PM Eastern Time (Tuesday night) for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Trump has threatened to strike Iranian power plants and bridges if the strategic waterway remains closed to international shipping.
Alireza Rahimi, a senior official from Iran’s Supreme Council of Youth and Adolescents, made a public video call urging “all young people, athletes, artists, students, university students and their professors” to take part. He described power plants as “national assets” that belong to the future of Iran’s youth and called the campaign “Human Chain for a Bright Future for Iranian Youth.”
The move is seen as both a symbolic show of national unity and a physical attempt to shield critical infrastructure from possible US or Israeli attacks. It comes after President Masoud Pezeshkian and nearly 14 million Iranians reportedly registered their willingness to defend the country.
The situation remains highly tense as the deadline nears. Iran has rejected temporary ceasefire proposals and insists on a lasting agreement. The world is watching closely to see how the crisis unfolds in the coming hours.
