Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has publicly appreciated Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Defence Forces, for his extraordinary dedication in helping secure the recent ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
Speaking on Wednesday, the Prime Minister said that Field Marshal Asim Munir spent many sleepless nights working round the clock on diplomatic efforts. He described the military leader’s tireless work as one of the main reasons behind the successful two-week ceasefire agreement.
PM Shehbaz Sharif credited Field Marshal Munir’s relentless engagement through multiple high-level phone calls and back-channel diplomacy. These efforts, combined with the Prime Minister’s own contacts, played a key role in convincing both sides to pause hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The Prime Minister stated that Pakistan’s mediation has placed the country at the centre of regional peace-building. He added that Field Marshal Munir’s commitment and strategic approach helped prevent further escalation in the Middle East.
The ceasefire, announced after weeks of rising tensions, has been widely welcomed. It includes a two-week pause in conflict and paves the way for further talks in Islamabad on April 10, 2026.
This praise from the Prime Minister highlights the strong civil-military coordination in Pakistan’s successful diplomatic initiative. Many observers believe Pakistan’s timely efforts helped bring the two major powers to the negotiating table.
