The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh monsoon alert, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms in several cities across the country, including Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), over the coming days. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant as the wet spell could trigger urban flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the weather forecast, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Chitral, Dir, Kohistan, and several other districts of KP are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall. Rain is also likely in parts of Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Sindh, and Balochistan as a strong monsoon system moves across the country.
The PMD has warned that intense downpours may lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods in hilly regions, and landslides in northern parts of the country. Local administrations and disaster management authorities have been advised to stay on alert and take precautionary measures where necessary.
The expected rainfall is likely to bring relief from the ongoing hot and humid weather, particularly in Islamabad, Punjab, and KP. However, heavy showers may disrupt road traffic, delay travel, and temporarily affect power supply in some areas. Residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during period of intense rainfall and stay away from streams, rivers, and flood-prone locations.
Officials also noted that the fresh spell of rain could help improve water levels in reservoirs, providing some relief to the country’s water resources. At the same time, citizens are encouraged to monitor official weather updates and follow safety advisories issued by the PMD and disaster management authorities.
With another active monsoon system approaching, authorities are urging people to remain prepared and exercise caution until the weather conditions improve.
