WORLD’S LARGEST COOLING SYSTEM INSTALLED IN MASJID HARAM WITH 159,000 TONS AIR-CONDITIONING CAPACITY

As part of its efforts to improve the experience for visitors, Saudi Arabia has installed the world’s largest cooling plant in the Grand Mosque of Makkah. This facility is designed to keep the mosque cool and comfortable for worshipers, especially during the hot months.

The cooling plant uses advanced ultraviolet light technology to purify the air. The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques ensures that the air is completely clean through a special three-stage filtration process, which is carried out nine times a day. This means that worshipers can breathe fresh, pure air while they are inside the mosque.

The Grand Mosque is home to two of the largest cooling stations in the world. One of them, called the Ajyad station, produces 35,300 refrigeration tons. The other is a new central station that has a much larger capacity of 159,000 tons.

To ensure that the mosque remains at the right temperature, backup cooling stations are also available. These backup systems are regularly maintained by skilled technicians to ensure everything works smoothly.

This initiative is an important step in making the Grand Mosque a more comfortable place for worshipers, enhancing their overall experience while they pray and visit this sacred site. The cooling plant is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader goal to improve facilities for visitors to the holy places, making them more welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.
