Maryam Nawaz Orders Speedy Construction of Lahore Cancer Hospital

by Mahnoor Arif

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered accelerated construction of the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in Lahore. She directed officials to continue work in three shifts round the clock so the hospital can be completed at the earliest.

During her visit to the site, Maryam Nawaz reviewed progress on key departments including radiology, CT scan, radiotherapy, and treatment planning units. She stressed the need to hire highly qualified doctors and professionals for top positions to deliver world-class cancer care. The chief minister instructed that modern equipment and patient-friendly facilities must be used to provide the best possible treatment.

The 915-bed institute is being built at a cost of around Rs75 billion in Valencia Town, Lahore. It will be Pakistan’s first state-of-the-art public cancer hospital offering advanced diagnostics, LINAC-based radiation therapy, surgery, and other services under one roof. Advanced cancer patients are expected to receive free treatment.

Maryam Nawaz emphasised that the hospital should focus on quality healthcare and easy access for patients from across Punjab and Pakistan. Officials briefed her that the basement and ground floor have already been completed, and work is progressing rapidly.

This project aims to strengthen medical infrastructure in the province and bring modern cancer treatment closer to people. The chief minister’s strict instructions show the Punjab government’s commitment to improving healthcare facilities and reducing the burden of expensive treatment on common citizens.
