Iran and Saudi Foreign Ministers hold First Call Since Start of Conflict

by Mahnoor Arif

The foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia held their first telephone conversation since the recent regional conflict started.

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan received a call from his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Thursday. During the call, both leaders discussed the latest developments in the region and explored ways to reduce tensions and restore security and stability.

This important contact comes just one day after the announcement of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Saudi Arabia had welcomed the ceasefire and called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as well as an end to all attacks in the region.

The phone call is seen as a positive step toward easing long-standing rivalries between the two major Gulf countries. It signals that diplomatic channels are reopening after weeks of heightened tensions caused by the US-Israel-Iran conflict.

Analysts believe this conversation could help build confidence and support broader efforts for de-escalation in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia has been actively encouraging calm and dialogue among regional countries.

The development comes at a sensitive time as high-level peace talks between the US and Iran are scheduled to begin in Islamabad, Pakistan. Many observers hope that improved communication between Riyadh and Tehran will contribute to long-term peace and stability across the Gulf region.
