Russia Lifts B@n on Pakistani Potatoes

by Mahnoor Arif

Russia has officially lifted its ban on importing potatoes from Pakistan, allowing shipments to resume after restrictions were imposed in 2025.

The decision was made after Pakistan provided detailed technical reports and laboratory tests proving that its potatoes are free from pests and diseases. The reports satisfied Russian phytosanitary requirements.

Initially, a limited number of exporters from Punjab have been approved to send potatoes to Russia. More exporters are expected to receive approval in the coming weeks once they complete the necessary documentation and quality checks.

This is a major boost for Pakistani farmers, especially in Punjab, which is currently facing a surplus of potato production. The lifting of the ban is expected to help stabilize local potato prices and reduce losses for growers.

Pakistan is one of the world’s largest potato producers. Opening the Russian market will not only increase export earnings but also create new opportunities for the agriculture sector. Russia is a big consumer of potatoes, and this move could lead to long-term trade benefits.

Both countries have been working to strengthen bilateral trade relations. The resumption of potato exports is seen as a positive step that will benefit farmers, exporters, and the overall economy.

Officials hope this development will encourage further cooperation in agriculture and open doors for other Pakistani products in the Russian market.
