Periodic Maintenance of the Kaaba Begun to Preserve Its Structure and Appearance

by Mahnoor Arif

Routine periodic maintenance of the Holy Kaaba has started in Makkah. The work began around April 6, 2026, under the supervision of Saudi authorities to keep Islam’s holiest site in perfect condition.

During this maintenance, parts of the black Kiswah (the sacred cloth covering the Kaaba) have been carefully lifted or temporarily removed. A white protective covering has been placed on the lower sections so that experts can inspect and repair the stone structure underneath without any damage.

The maintenance team is checking the walls, corners, roof, and other structural elements. They clean the surface, strengthen weak areas, and make sure everything remains strong and beautiful. Special care is taken to preserve the sanctity of the Kaaba while carrying out the work.

This is a regular annual process, usually done before the Hajj season. It allows the Kaaba to stay safe and look its best for millions of Muslim pilgrims who visit throughout the year for Umrah and Hajj. The work is carried out with great respect and uses modern techniques along with traditional methods.

The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques and other government departments are overseeing the entire operation. Officials say this routine care reflects Saudi Arabia’s strong commitment to protecting and honouring the House of Allah.

The maintenance is expected to be completed soon, well before the main Hajj 2026 season begins. Once finished, the beautiful black Kiswah will be fully replaced or adjusted, and the Kaaba will once again welcome worshippers in its finest form.
