Pakistan saw a big increase in animal sacrifices during Eid-ul-Adha 2026. According to the Pakistan Tanners Association, a total of 7.47 million animals were sacrificed nationwide this year. This is higher than last year’s figure of around 6.97 million.
The breakdown shows 2.75 million cows and bulls, 4.2 million goats, 500,000 sheep, and 25,000 camels were sacrificed. Goats remained the most popular choice among people, followed by cows and bulls.
The hides collected from these animals are estimated to be worth Rs. 8.67 billion. Cow and bull hides alone contributed Rs. 6.05 billion, making up nearly 70% of the total value. Average hide prices were Rs. 2,200 for cattle, Rs. 600 for goats, Rs. 100 for sheep, and Rs. 2,000 for camels.
This rise in sacrifices is linked to better availability of livestock and a strong religious spirit among people. The leather industry gets a major boost every year from Eid hides, which support exports and provide jobs to many workers.
Eid-ul-Adha not only fulfills a religious duty but also plays an important role in Pakistan’s economy through livestock trade and the tannery sector. Proper handling of hides can further increase their value and reduce waste.
