The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly is all set to make history tomorrow. For the first time, lawmakers will hold a session outside their regular building, at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium in Peshawar on April 22, 2026.
Speaker Babar Saleem Swati made the announcement. He said the open-air venue will bring more transparency to the proceedings. People will get a chance to see their elected representatives at work up close, instead of just reading about it later.
Both the treasury benches and the opposition have agreed to the plan. The session is scheduled to start at 3:00 pm, with the Speaker in the chair. Security teams and officials are busy making special arrangements to keep everything smooth and safe.
The idea came after Chief Minister Sohail Afridi spoke about holding the session in an open space during a public rally. Speaker Swati then talked with opposition leader Dr Ibad and other party heads. Everyone supported the move to make democracy feel closer to the people.
The Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, once known as Arbab Niaz Stadium, is a well-known spot in Peshawar with a large seating capacity. It has hosted many cricket matches over the years.
Officials hope this step will strengthen public trust and encourage more people to take an interest in assembly work. They even say similar open sessions could be tried in other districts in the future.
