The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved Rs 10.15 billion for the Pakistan Navy’s Hangor Project. The decision was made on Friday, June 5, 2026, during a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.

This funding is part of the Rafale Aircraft and Force Development Package (RAFDP)-2030. It will support the Hangor-class submarine programme, which is a key part of Pakistan Navy’s long-term modernisation plan. The Hangor Project aims to strengthen Pakistan’s underwater defence capabilities and improve overall naval readiness.

The allocation is a technical supplementary grant provided by the Ministry of Defence. It forms part of broader efforts to enhance defence infrastructure and maintain strong armed forces. The Hangor-class submarines are being acquired from China and represent one of the biggest naval modernisation programmes for Pakistan.

Defence analysts say this funding will help in timely completion of ongoing projects and boost Pakistan’s maritime security in the region. The ECC approval shows the government’s commitment to national defence even during challenging economic times.

This step is expected to support technological advancement and operational strength of the Pakistan Navy. It will play an important role in protecting Pakistan’s sea borders and interests in the Indian Ocean.
