Iran Granted US Visas for FIFA World Cup 2026

by Mahnoor Arif

Iran’s national football team has received a big relief. The United States has granted visas to the Iranian players for the FIFA World Cup 2026. This decision came on June 5, 2026, just days before the tournament begins, ending weeks of uncertainty caused by political tensions between the two countries.

The players applied for visas at the US Embassy in Türkiye, where the team was training in Antalya. A White House official confirmed that all members of the 26-man squad have been approved. However, some delegation members and support staff still face visa issues.

Due to these complications, Iran had already shifted its team base to Tijuana, Mexico. The players will stay in Mexico and travel across the border only for their matches in the United States. Iran is scheduled to play its first group match against New Zealand in Los Angeles on June 15.

This situation highlights how sports can be affected by politics. Despite the challenges, Iran will compete as planned in the World Cup co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico. The visa approval allows Team Melli to focus on football and represent their country on the big stage.

Fans and officials hope this development will let the team prepare without further problems. It shows that, in the end, the spirit of the game continues even amid diplomatic difficulties.
