Pakistani surgeons have achieved something remarkable in medicine. The Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI&RC) in Lahore performed 10 liver transplants in just 23 hours and 20 minutes. A team of 120 doctors, nurses, and support staff worked together on this historic effort.
The complex operations included advanced techniques such as seven domino liver transplants and eight Auxiliary Partial Orthotopic Liver Transplants (APOLT). Nine children, including a nine-month-old baby, and one adult received new livers. Remarkably, the team used organs from only three deceased donors to help all ten patients.
This smart use of organs shows great progress in transplant medicine. It allows more patients to receive life-saving treatment even when donor availability is limited. Officials at PKLI called it a milestone for Pakistan’s healthcare system.
Guinness World Records has taken notice. They have requested full medical records and evidence from the institute. A verification team is also expected to visit PKLI&RC soon to check the details.
If approved, this would be a proud moment for Pakistan. It highlights the skill and dedication of Pakistani doctors and brings new hope to patients waiting for transplants. The achievement can inspire better organ donation programs across the country.
