WhatsApp Adds Long-Awaited Scheduled Messages Feature

by Mahnoor Arif

WhatsApp is introducing a new Group Message History feature that will help users stay updated when joining a group chat. The feature allows newly added members to view recent conversations, making it easier for them to understand ongoing discussions without asking others to repeat important information.

According to WhatsApp, group members can choose to share between 25 and 100 previous messages with new participants. This means users joining a group can quickly catch up on announcements, plans, and discussions that took place before they were added.

The update is expected to improve communication in large groups, including family chats, workplace teams, school groups, and community forums. In the past, new members could only see messages sent after they joined, often missing important context from earlier conversations.

To give users more control, group administrators will have the option to disable message history sharing. This allows groups that handle sensitive or private discussions to decide whether previous messages should be available to new members.

WhatsApp has also confirmed that all shared messages will remain protected by end-to-end encryption. This ensures that only members of the group can read the conversations, maintaining the platform’s focus on privacy and security.

The feature is being rolled out gradually to users around the world. Once available, it is expected to make group chats more organized, informative, and convenient for everyone involved.
