Pakistan’s federal government presented its budget for the financial year 2026-27 on June 12, 2026. The total budget size is about Rs. 18.77 trillion. In this budget, the government has given the highest priority to national security. It has allocated Rs. 3,000 billion for defence, which is an 18% increase from the previous year.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said this increase is necessary because of uncertainty in the region. The money will help strengthen the armed forces, buy modern equipment, and keep the country safe.

For education, the government has set aside Rs. 46 billion for higher education, science, and technology. This is more than last year. The funds will support universities, research, scholarships, and digital learning. Another Rs. 22 billion has been given for basic education and skills development.

In the health sector, Rs. 25 billion has been allocated. The focus is on building better hospitals, improving emergency and critical care, and providing good cancer treatment. The government wants to expand tertiary healthcare facilities across the country.

The budget also includes Rs. 13 billion for governance and institutional reforms. Overall, the government aims to balance security needs with development in education and health. However, many people are worried that education and health still get much less money compared to defence. Experts say more investment in these areas is important for Pakistan’s long-term growth and people’s well-being.
