Rawalpindi’s historic Kutchery Chowk has officially been renamed as “Marka-e-Haq Square” following the completion of a major redevelopment project aimed at improving traffic flow and city infrastructure.
The project was carried out by the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) and local administration as part of broader urban development plans in the city. Officials said the renaming symbolizes national pride and recognizes important historical values linked to Pakistan’s identity.
The newly upgraded square includes improved road networks, better traffic management systems, beautification work, and enhanced public facilities. Authorities believe the redevelopment will help reduce traffic congestion in one of Rawalpindi’s busiest areas, which connects several key roads and government offices.
Strict security arrangements were put in place during the inauguration ceremony. Law enforcement agencies deployed extra personnel in and around the area to ensure public safety and smooth traffic movement.
Local officials stated that the project reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing Rawalpindi’s infrastructure while preserving the importance of key public spaces. Residents have welcomed the improved road conditions and cleaner surroundings, though some have expressed mixed views about the name change.
